They are built for two jobs: finding a word that fits the green and yellow tiles you already have, and learning the everyday vocabulary the puzzle actually uses. A few letters are left out on purpose: almost no five-letter words start with X, or end in J, Q or V, so those pages would be too thin to be useful.
